Nutrition During Recovery
If poor appetite, nausea, or difficulty eating makes it hard to meet your nutritional needs, contact your care team. Discuss an individualized food and fluid plan and whether a registered dietitian or supplementation would be appropriate. Avoid starting or changing supplements without checking your post-operative instructions.
Our nutrition before and after surgery guide summarizes research, including a 2026 spine-surgery review coauthored by Dr. Jazayeri. It explains why findings from spine surgery cannot automatically be applied to every orthopedic procedure. For rehabilitation and activity planning, see the recovery guide.
