This review synthesizes evidence on perioperative nutritional risk assessment and interventions in spine surgery. It discusses the limitations of isolated serum markers, nutritional screening tools, protein and amino acid supplementation, vitamin D, and multidisciplinary coordination. It is a review of existing research, not an original clinical trial or a practice-specific outcomes report.
The authors emphasize clinical interpretation of albumin and prealbumin because inflammation can affect these values.
